AtomTrace: Strengthening EU–Zambia Strategic Cooperation Through Innovation
Last month, AtomTrace participated in the EU–Zambia Lobito Corridor Business Forum, where our CEO, Jan Proček, represented the company among government leaders, development partners, and private-sector innovators. The Forum aimed to advance the strategic development of the Lobito Corridor, a major initiative designed to improve transport and logistics infrastructure, boost trade flows, and support value-added production in key sectors such as critical raw materials, agriculture, and energy.
For AtomTrace, the event carried special significance. It also marked an important public moment for the Future Resources Development Global Initiative (FRDGI)—a newly established Czech-led platform designed to support Zambia’s transition toward higher value-added processing, advanced analytics, and responsible development of critical raw materials in full alignment with the EU Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA). As one of the founding technological partners of FRDGI, AtomTrace plays a central role in operationalizing this initiative, supplying the analytical capabilities that enable real-time, data-driven decision-making across exploration, mining, and processing.
The Forum hosted the ceremonial handover of two of our M-Trace analytical instruments, delivered under a CzechAid tied financial donation. This contribution is both a standalone achievement and a key building block within the broader FRDGI framework. It reflects how EU–Zambia cooperation is evolving from traditional development assistance toward strategic, innovation-driven partnerships where European technology providers, such as AtomTrace, reinforce Zambia’s long-term scientific and industrial capacity.
The donated systems were provided to Copperbelt University in Kitwe, a leading academic institution in mining, geology, and engineering. Our M-Trace technology represents state-of-the-art analytical capability, offering fast, reliable, and real-time chemical analysis of minerals and geological samples, both in laboratory conditions and directly in the field. These features are essential for modern mining and exploration workflows, yet such capabilities remain limited or inaccessible in many regions.
By equipping Copperbelt University with these tools, and by embedding this support within the FRDGI Pilot and Strategic Phases, AtomTrace is ready to help expand local access to analytical standards that match those of leading global institutions. The M-Trace systems will support scientific research, hands-on geological training, and better decision-making in exploration and resource evaluation, empowering students, researchers, and future industry professionals.
More broadly, FRDGI establishes a scalable architecture for EU–Africa cooperation, enabling models proven in Zambia to be replicated in other regions where CRMA-aligned partnerships are emerging. AtomTrace’s participation ensures that advanced analytical technologies remain at the core of this strategy—facilitating transparent, sustainable, and high-value resource development in line with EU expectations on traceability, environmental responsibility, and resilient value chains.
We are honoured that our technology—and our role within FRDGI—will contribute not only to strengthening Zambia’s analytical and research capacity, but also to shaping a new generation of EU–partner-country cooperation rooted in innovation, scientific excellence, and shared strategic interests. AtomTrace remains committed to building partnerships that deliver real impact, transfer advanced knowledge, and support sustainable growth in regions undergoing dynamic transformation.
